So sang Phil Collins, and he could have been describing the world we hear about non-stop at the moment.
So what does this mean for School Tours?
The temptation as teachers, school administrators and parents might be to throw our hands in air and give up. It’s too hard. Too risky.
I’m going to argue that this is not the approach to take at all. Sure, I’m biased - it’s my passion and my job to encourage travel. But it goes beyond that. And it’s not just being flippant by saying there’s risk every time you leave your house.
Our children are our most valuable gifts to not only ourselves, but our future. It makes complete sense to be cautious and manage risk. But to deprive them of the growth experiences and resilience that travel provides is to reduce their learning at a time when they could use it most.

Maybe he’s right - do our kids, who have lived through Covid and other challenges, need to be defined by the inevitable volatility, or do they continue on growing and, in the most protected way possible with travel, ‘showing where their lives are going to.’
