Study deserts, urban sprawl, landscapes, erosion, hazards and water management in Arizona, one of the driest states in America on this school tour. Take your students to Nevada where they will learn about the incredible Grand Canyon and visit Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the country and learn how it supplies water across three different states.
This geography tour gives students an opportunity to look back in time to 2 billion years ago when igneous and metamorphic rocks began the formation of the Grand Canyon. Well known for its geologic significance, the Grand Canyon is one of the most studied landscapes in the world and is considered one of the finest examples of arid land erosion in the world.
From its dramatic 1500 m deep, 446 km long, and up to 29 km wide gorge, to its diverse plateaus, towers and hills, the Grand Canyon is truly spectacular.
DAY 1: ARRIVE SAN FRANCISCO
On arrival, you will be met by an EA representative, who will help you onto the coach and check you into your hotel. Spend the rest of the day settling in on a sightseeing tour of the city.
DAY 2: SAN ANDREAS FAULT
In the Bay Area, the San Andreas fault has had a major impact on the landscape of the area running along the hills behind San Francisco. Explore the Presidio of San Francisco with the Earthquake Cottages where people moved after the 1906 Earthquake and views over the Golden Gate Bridge along the San Andreas Fault.
DAY 3: YOSEMITE VALLEY
The Yosemite Valley is a great destination with its unique and diverse range of geological features, including towering granite cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and a variety of ecosystems.

In Nevada, students will learn about the incredible Grand Canyon and visit the Grand Canyon ‘Glass’ Skywalk, suspended 4000ft above the Canyon in the Hualapai Indian Reservation. Visit Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the country and learn how it supplies water across three different states, and explore the engineering behind the Hoover Dam. Walk the strip in Las Vegas, and discover the incredible city in the middle of the desert! This is a trip full of discovery, studying the links between natural and man-made wonders and the difficulties of striking a balance between the two.
Built in 1931, the Hoover Dam was the result of over 5 years of construction. To accomplish this amazing feat, the workers had to divert the Colorado River which they did by building over 5km's of tunnels through the canyon walls. This amazing feat of engineering can control floods, provide irrigation and hydroelectric power for Nevada, Arizona and California.
Las Vegas, in Nevada’s Mojave Desert, is a resort town famed for its buzzing energy, 24-hour casinos and endless entertainment options. Its focal point is the Strip, just over 4 miles long and lined with elaborately themed hotels such as the pyramid-shaped Luxor and the Venetian, complete with Grand Canal; luxury resorts including the Bellagio, set behind iconic dancing fountains; and innumerable casinos.
Carved out by the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon (nearly 1,500 m deep) is the most spectacular gorge in the world. The Grand Canyon is a World Heritage Site that lies on the Colorado Plateau in north western Arizona. It is one of the National Park Service's most popular sites. The National Park encompasses over 1.2m acres of land which consists of raised plateaus and structural basins.
